Synopsis

Life isn't always fair, and that’s something that Llewellyn Gardner knows about first hand. His life was on the fast track until one night of extreme passion changed everything. Now eight years later, he’s still living with the aftershocks of that night. Everywhere he turns or runs, there’s another reminder. What the hell do you do when you try to drown your demons only to find out they can swim?

Shane Smith, Jr. owner of Smith Construction, could see the emotional turmoil within his new employee — it’s why he hired him. There was something about the gorgeous, misunderstood man with the overly expressive eyes that came to their small town with a past no one was willing to overlook. Shane could see the good in Llewellyn, and those eyes of his were a clear window to his soul. Shane wasn't going to let the man live a future of solitude because his past had been plagued with deceit.

Llewellyn wasn’t sure what to think about Shane. After years of protecting himself from being tricked twice, he was now faced with worry again. What would happen to him if Shane didn’t believe his truth, and walked away? Llewellyn wasn’t sure he'd be able to survive being left alone. Again.

Debra’s Quick Bite

I love angst and Defined by Deceit delivers. You’re definitely going to need tissues going into this. A.E. Via completely crushed me with the first part of this book and I absolutely fell in love with Llew. The betrayal he suffers is obscene and I had a list of people I hated 10% of the way through the book.

The first part of the story we see Llew try to put his life back together after what was done to him and it starts out very rough. He has thick, high walls and isn’t expecting a fair chance. After all the turmoil in the start of the story, seeing Llew come back to life with the people who were willing to give him a clean slate, especially Shane, Ms. Pat and the incredibly intriguing Ace was heart-warming. The friendship and romance between Llew and Shane is beautiful and just what Llew deserves after all he has been through.

If you like it when your characters go through hell before they find happiness, you want to jump on this. Lots of angst, hot sex, villains that will have you on the verge of screaming and a roller coaster of emotions in this one which has an ultimately satisfying happy ending.

Birthday Presents by Dianne Hartsock

Synopsis

For Tracey, life has become a nightmare. Kidnapped from a nightclub in Boulder, Colorado, brutalized and raped by the killer known as Crimson, he's held captive alongside Kyle, a young man Crimson keeps chained to his bed and is slowly torturing to death. Though Tracey manages to escape with Kyle's help, he is forced to leave Kyle behind.

Gene has never stopped looking for his brother Kyle, abducted from a nightclub seven months previously. The case breaks open when Tracey comes forward, claiming to have knowledge of the whereabouts of Crimson's hideout.

A manhunt begins, but Crimson's birthday has come and gone, and he will kill again.

Cheryl’s Quick Bite

This is not a book for the faint hearted. Told from various perspectives, one of which is a serial killer, the story is complex, deep and chilling.

Crimson kills beautiful young men as birthday presents to himself. He is a master of his craft; intelligent, creative and always one step ahead. He made a mistake when he stole Kyle though, and a bigger one when he kept him. Torturing Kyle slowly to death might have been the biggest thrill of his life but this, and his obsession with Tracey, is what finally brought him down because Kyle’s brother Craig and Tracey’s boyfriend Daniel will stop at nothing to save the men they love.

This story had me from the blurb. It dives right into the action and stays there for the entire trip. Yes, I skipped ahead more than once because I just couldn’t handle the anticipation, but that’s me. I know there are plenty of you out there who will relish the mental torment as much as Crimson relishes the physical.

I won’t give away any secrets but Holy Shit the twist at the end will knock you sideways.

The Easy Way by May Archer

Synopsis

Camden Seaver had it easy - a loving family, plenty of money, and the freedom to follow his dreams while his older brother, Sebastian, took charge of the family business. But when a tragic plane crash killed his parents, all the responsibilities he never wanted landed firmly on his shoulders. Now saddled with his crazy, grief-stricken brother and his dad’s multimillion dollar company, Cam doesn’t trust in dreams anymore. He’s forgotten what “easy” feels like.

FBI Agent Kendrick “Cort” Cortland learned the hard way that he couldn’t depend on anyone but himself. Before joining the FBI, the one constant in his life was his foster brother, Damon - and then Damon disappeared. Now, Cort is determined to find his brother and to bring down the man responsible for ruining Damon’s life, Sebastian Seaver. He’s got nothing left to lose.

When Cort’s investigation leads him to Seaver Tech...and Camden Seaver...what started as a quest for revenge and a one-night deception quickly turns into far more than either man bargained for. But how can either man trust in something that seems so easy? As long-held secrets are revealed, the attraction between Cam and Cort becomes combustible - an undeniable love that will either make or destroy them. Will Cam and Cort let their conflicting loyalties drive them apart? Or will they decide that sometimes love is the easy way?

Jane’s Quick Bite

A great debut novel that has FBI agents, wealthy family saga, mystery and intrigue and an unlikely coming together of the two main characters. Cam and Cort meet under a cloak of revenge and deception but their attraction transcends that and we follow them through the deception, finding out hidden truths and answers and seeing if their attraction and blossoming love can withstand the lies. Cam is a sweetheart and Cort is so loyal , I loved them both. Their chemistry is hot, as is the sex and the relationship is as well developed as the plot. The games they play, like ‘Never Have I Ever….’ And the text messaging banter between them really made me smile. This doesn't end on a cliffhanger but we are left with a few loose ends so I'm looking forward to the second book in the series. Also the author has a bonus chapter on her website for your further enjoyment. If you enjoy hot chemistry, with intrigue and suspense and a thrilling ending that keeps you turning the page, then give this one a go.

Dancing Days by Clare London

Synopsis

The day Glen Carson loses his wallet is the day that changes his life. The wallet is returned by Aston Walsh, a man he hasn't seen for twenty years. He and Aston had a passionate and intense romance when they were in their late twenties, and Glen thought their love would last forever. But his dreams were horribly shattered by a shocking confession from Aston, and they parted for good—or so Glen assumed. Now, two decades later, they’ve lived many years apart, created new histories, and built successful lives. Yet the spark between them is still there. Aston wants a second chance with Glen, but Glen is more cautious this time around. He has to decide if Aston's regret is genuine, and if surrendering his heart to Aston again is worth the risk.

A story from the Dreamspinner Press 2015 Daily Dose package "Never Too Late."

Sue’s Quick Bite

This wonderful feel-good novella shows it’s never too late for a second chance at love. It made a refreshing change to read a story with characters of an older age (40/50), albeit still attractive men. I liked that their bodies showed the ravages of time and age, including in the bedroom, plus their hobbies and interests have also moved on and matured.

My heart went out to Glen as his past feelings were dredged up again after a gap of twenty years in this powerful tale of love and trust. His heart had been broken once and he is understandably reluctant to risk renewing his connection with his past lover. Their backstory is blended artfully into the narrative. I loved how the two men get to know each other as friends first after meeting again by chance. I could understand Glen’s hesitation over giving their relationship another go and this conflict seemed realistic and not forced.

Overall, a superb and well-written story, packed with emotion and depth. The British setting and Clare’s delightful humour only adds to the appeal of the story for me. The resolution is slightly corny, but suits the plot, the characters and their experiences.

Highly recommended.

Married For A Month by Cate Ashwood

Married for a Month[4]Rating ~ 5 Stars

Buy from Amazon

Synopsis

Best friends since high school, Chase Bradley and Alec Montero are opposites in almost every way. The one thing they can agree on, though, is that marriage is for suckers.
Everything is going their way until a drunken bet leads Alec and Chase to the altar. Their temporary “I Do’s” aren’t as amusing in the sober light of day when they find themselves thrown into married life and everything that goes with it.

The question they have to ask themselves now is, can their friendship survive being married for a month?

Freya’s Quick Bite

One drunken night, the friends of Chase and Alec didn’t believe either had it in them to succeed in a long-term relationship. Rising to the challenge, and not wanting to find a stranger, Chase proposed to his lifelong best friend Alec and they entered into a napkin contract of marriage for one month. What did they prove to their friends and what did they prove to themselves? And would it continue when the month was up.

Chase and Alec have similar love-em and leave-em histories, but Alec grew up an organised human being. It was a delight to read characters so different, yet equally flawed. Both men hold their own in the banter states and have realistic, funny, occasionally self-deprecating views of themselves and each other. All the dialog seamlessly flowed.

Suddenly living 24/7 in the same space caused fun, explosive, awkward, and emotional moments. With no intention of giving up, as well as everyday life and the terms of the contract, they had to learn to live with the quirks and faults of the other. Add in the previously unseen sexual attraction, and I had a truly delicious read – one that entertained and warmed the cockles of my heart.

  5. I absolutely love A.E's work so without even reading the synposis' of the others I can safely say Id absolutely LOVE to read Defined by Deceit by A.E. Via the most next... And I do love the sound of the synopsis and your take on the book ❤

...Birthday Presents also sounds like it could be a great read though I have to be in the mood for something that sounds so tough - especially as you say it's in part told by the monster -
so I'll be adding that to my TBR for a later read. I also think Married for a month sounds like a great fun read.
