Synopsis

One kinky wood carver. One younger chef looking to try new things. A series of lessons that bring both men more than they bargained for…
Curtis Hunt has made a name for himself as a chainsaw wood carver, winning national competitions and operating a small business in Rainbow Cove, Oregon. As winter whittles away his tourist traffic, his goal is just to survive the season and try to not get lost in grief for his dead lover. It’s been two years, but he’s sure he’ll never be over the love of a lifetime. However, his body has a certain restlessness that he doesn’t quite know how to calm.
Logan Rosner knows a thing or two about restlessness. It’s what drove him to Rainbow Cove to be a chef at a bar and grill run by his friends. And it’s what drives him to a single sizzling encounter with the local legendary lumberjack. Both men get far more than they expected and learn that first impressions aren’t always accurate…
But when Logan proposes a series of sexy lessons, Curtis must decide how much he’s willing to risk. He knows he can’t afford to get attached to Logan’s good cooking, his easy smiles, or his caretaking, but he keeps going back for more, even as deeper emotions become involved. Soon, Curtis must decide whether to risk his heart again or risk losing Logan for good.
Tender with a Twist is a 79,000 word stand-alone gay romance with a May/December theme, featuring a second chance at love, opposites attract, loads of sexy times with mild BDSM elements, and one emotionally-charged, guaranteed happy ending with no cliffhangers.

Lisa’s Review

Tender with a Twist is the second book in Annabeth Albert’s series entitled Rainbow Cove. I have read and reviewed pretty much all of Ms. Albert’s books so I feel like I say this repeatedly… but…. I am a huge fan of this author and with each new book she releases I feel her writing just gets better and better. Her style of writing just does it for me. Okay! Her books tell emotional, fun and heart-warming stories that leave you happily sighing in romance lala land. My favorite place to be! This book was no exception from her norm. From the first page I was hooked and wanted to see just how things would play out between the two seemingly opposite protagonists who don’t exactly start off on the right foot.

Logan Rosner moved to the small town of Rainbow Cove when his two close friends decided to buy a bar and grill. He followed behind to be their head chef. Logan and his two friends have taken over the old bar and grill and are hoping that their new acquisition as well as their presence in town will be the first steps in turning the small town into a gay-friendly destination. Things are certainly moving in the right direction, but it does not mean they are out of the woods yet.

Curtis Hunt is a champion chainsaw woodcarver who runs his own business out of Rainbow Cove. He pretty much keeps to himself (for the most part) and most certainly comes off as harsh and standoffish. Curtis has never really gotten over the loss of his former partner. It has been two years; however, for Curtis, he’s never going to be the same.

Despite Curtis’ loner tendencies, he makes regular appearances at the bar and grill for some food. Logan is attracted to the burly artist who can wield a chainsaw but knows that Curtis sees him in the same light everyone else does - a fragile young man who somehow needs to be protected. After an accidental heated night between our two protagonists, the attraction between them becomes very apparent. However, can Curtis finally move beyond his grief and look at a future with someone else? Logan wants so much more with Curtis than simply fulfilling a need for each other. Is he na├»ve to hope for more?

I loved the fact that Curtis and Logan were so outwardly different and how they led very dissimilar lives. Curtis was living a sad, lonely life and he simply had no idea just how much he needed someone like Logan sauntering into his atmosphere and taking charge. This was a tender, sweet and sexy tale as we watch the two men who weren’t exactly expecting each other become everything to one another. I absolutely LOVED the fact that Ms. Albert threw in a little kink this time. Whoot!

All in all, Tender with a Twist was a wonderful addition to this series. I love how real and different the characters this author creates seem to be. Curtis and Logan were no exception. They had their flaws but in the end all that matters is finding someone who accepts you, the good and the bad. Someone who wants you to fulfill your dreams and perhaps make some new ones with you. This is definitely a series to check out for lovers of the M/M genre. Highly recommended.
